Windows Vista Configuration
Using Wireless Printing
NOTE: You must have "Local Administrator" privileges in order to install
print drivers or modify print queues. If you are working with your own
personal computer, it is likely that you already have these administrative rights.
- You must install a new local printer that connects to the IET Remote Printing server. Go to the Start Menu, then choose Control Panel. Double click on Printers. Then click on Add a Printer.
- In
the "Add Printer" dialog, click on Add a local Printer.

-
Under "Use an existing port:" select the "FILE: (Print to File)"
port for this printer and click Next.

- At
the "Install the printer software" dialog, choose "HP" under
Manufacturer and HP LaserJet 4350 PS. Then click Next

-
Under Type a printer name, change the printer name to IET
Wireless Printing and keep the option "Set as the default
printer" unchecked. Click Next.

- In
the "You've successfully added IET Wireless Printing" dialog, do not
print a test page. Just click Finish.

-
The IET Wirless Printing printer is now installed, but needs
to be configured. So right-click on the IET Wireless Printing
printer in the Printers window and choose Properties.

-
Click on Ports and then on Add Port. Choose
Standard TCP/IP Port, then click on New Port...

-
The Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard opens. Click
Next.

-
When prompted for "Printer Name or IP Address", enter
wirelessprinting.ucdavis.edu

-
The next screen you see will report "Additional Port Information
Required". Under the "Device Type" heading, select "Custom", then
click on "Settings..."

-
Under "Protocol", select "LPR". Under "LPR Settings", enter a Queue
Name of wirelessprinting. Select "OK", then Next,
and then Finish to return to the Printer Properties dialog.

-
Close the Printer Ports window. The new port (wirelessprinting.ucdavis.edu)
should now be selected (checked). You may now click "Close" to apply
your changes.

- Now your computer is configured to send print jobs to the IET
Wireless Printing.
- NOTE: You need to go back to the IET Wireless Printing page at http://wirelessprinting.ucdavis.edu/ and follow the instructions to logon to Wireless Printing before you can print.
